DeadSquad: Horror Vision
Apa yang membuat band ini menarik dan menjadi daya tarik terkuat sebenarnya terletak pada keberadaan para pengusung di dalamnya. DeadSquad adalah sebuah technical death metal band yang berisikan sekumpulan nama-nama yang sudah mendapat tempat di perhelatan musik tanah air. Baik di ranah musik mainstream maupun di zona musik bawah tanah. Adalah Stevie Item yang juga masih tercatat sebagai anggota Andra & The Backbone dan Christopher Bolemeyer yang dikenal sebagai Coki Netral, keduanya menempati jabatan sebagai gitaris. Lalu ada Bonsquad ex-Tengkorak pada bass. Adrian Gorust ex-Siksa Kubur pada drum dan Daniel ex-Abolish Conception pada vokal.
Sebelumnya sederet nama juga pernah memperkuat formasi DeadSquad. Seperti Ricky Siahaan yang kini tercatat masih sebagai personil Step Forward dan Seringai. Lalu Prisa, ex-Zala yang kini juga membentuk band barunya yang bernama Vendetta. Juga Babal ex-Alexander yang kini jabatannya ditempati oleh Daniel.
Kekuatan sensasi dari sederet nama-nama inilah yang pada akhirnya menjadikan DeadSquad sebagai supergrup yang ramai diperbincangkan. Karena diharapkan akan memberi sesuatu yang cukup menampar dengan telak khususnya di scene musik-musik metal ekstrim.
Horror Vision adalah ejawantah pertama yang sukses diluncurkan DeadSquad. Dirilis oleh Rottrevore Records Indonesia. Launching-nya sendiri telah dilakukan di saat konser “Lamb of God: Wrath Tour 2009” pada tanggal 9 Maret kemarin, dimana DeadSquad menjadi satu-satunya band pembuka. Berisikan delapan buah materi teknikal yang cukup masif. Salah satu track-nya adalah sebuah cover version dari materi band death metal legendaris Sepultura, Arise.
Ekspektasi saya mungkin sedikit terlalu tinggi. Karena ketika setelah menyimak keseluruhan materi tidak ditemukan sesuatu yang benar-benar baru. Semuanya masih dalam koridor technical death metal standar yang sudah kerap dilakukan oleh band-band sejenis terdahulu. Mungkin pendekatan gaya old-school metal coba dilakukan oleh mereka. Tapi jika saja eksplorasi dari segi karakter bisa dipertajam, tanpa harus meninggalkan gaya old-school yang mereka anut mungkin akan bisa terdengar lebih segar.
Namun jika yang dicari adalah dari sisi yang lebih teknis, seperti komposisi yang rapi dan elemen khas musik-musik metal teknikal ekstrim, hal tersebut dapat terpuaskan dalam album ini. Cukup menghancurkan kepala jika ingin merasakan sensasi brutalistik dari perpaduan keindahan harmoni dan keagresifan ritme-ritme blasting terstruktur dari keseluruhan materi.
Materi pertama, “Pasukan Mati” dibuka oleh sebuah intro orkestrasi megah. Mengingatkan saya pada gaya atmosferis yang kerap dilakukan oleh band orchestral melodic black metal, Dimmu Borgir. Lalu disusul oleh materi-materi lainnya yang membuat telinga cukup terseret kedalam struktur yang sophisticated. Ditutup oleh outro bernuansa mencekam yang menjadi sebuah penyelesai yang manis di akhir materi.
Penulisan liriknya cukup bagus. Terutama yang dikemas dalam format bahasa Indonesia. Permainan metafor yang cukup catchy dipadukan dengan komposisi diksi-diksi yang memancing untuk berpikir. Tema-tema tipikal kesuraman hidup dan kritik sosial dapat dirangkai dengan indah dalam sebuah materi lagu yang cukup solid. Dari segi teknis, mungkin jika vokal sedikit bisa lebih ditaruh di layer depan keindahan perpaduan kata-kata ini akan bisa lebih ternikmati dan tersampaikan.
Cukup telak sebagai gempuran awal. Semoga eksplorasi-eksplorasi yang menghajar di materi setelahnya akan menambah kekuatan karakter dari DeadSquad.

When the frenetic of Parc still exist, the two guitarists Stevie Item (Andra and the Backbone) and Ricky Siahaan (Seringai) gathered to make a new band to satisfy their desires with old school metal band. Before they separated, both are fight together to roused Step Forward. To complete the form, Bons (ex-player from Tengkorak) and Andyan (ex-player from Siksa Kubur) were invited to join. The first intention of this band is to play music for jamming session; Slayer, Anthrax, and Sepultura are the music they choose to play. This band was not feasible to make their own music, because they think it’s just a project band. In their way, Ricky resigns from this band because of his work activities., In June 2006, Prisa (ex-player from Zala) appear to fill the inanity of guitar position. No longer from it, Babal (Alexander) recruited to be a vocalist. With this formation they firmed themselves as Deadsquad (DS). Since August 29, 2008 they outpace form the gigs circuit. They also start to write their music, their name was bustling everywhere. Deadsquad is called as a super group because their names are recognizing in public. In November 2007, Prisa officially resign from Deadsquad, it doesn’t make Deadsquad crippled. They decided to stand with one guitar. In October 2008, Deadsquad found new profile to be the Stevie’s electron pairs. His name is Christopher Bollemeyer, a guitarist who’s known as Coki and listed as Netral’s personnel. In the same month, Daniel (Abolish Conception) joins to strengthen the form.
March 2009. After long standing on stage and made one-two single, it is time for Deadsquad to disseminate the solid terrors. They cooperate with Rottrevore Records (Indonesia), they released Horror Vision as their first album. It was launched in March 9, 2009 when they succeed in opening the Lamb of God’s concert in Jakarta.
Manufaktur Replika Baptis. Is a single title that reflects the album which contains eight high voltage songs.
By taken the lyrics with the dark side, all tracks in this album was arrange to the discipline composition; Technical Death Metal which bombards the metal music lovers Downstroke performance parade in guitar that blessed with melodic and harmonic leads will be the highlight for this album. Of those surely combined with hyperblasting-grinding solid loot drums and also growling and screaming maneuver at vocal.
It’s just the right an old school nostalgic project at the beginning, but then the band’s exploration loops to the roots. They’re influenced from abroad bands: Necrophagist, Visceral Bleeding, Spawn of Possession, Disavowed, Decrepit Birth, until Nile.
